Christmas should be a special day for friends and family to gather together in celebration. While COVID-19 may have put in kink in some of those plans, it doesn’t mean that we can’t all still wish for health, happiness, and a little magic during the holidays – especially this year. With that in mind, our wish for you this Christmas is that you LOVE your smile in 2021. Here are 7 Cosmetic Dental Treatments to Wish for this Christmas.
Smile Imperfections Gotcha Down?
The holidays are meant to make you feel happy; so happy that you have a “perma-grin”. However, if your smile has any imperfections, the holidays can often make you feel a little bit self-conscious about your appearance. If your smile imperfections are ruining your mood this Christmas, you may want to consider getting the right cosmetic dental treatment to address the issue.
Dr. Katherine E. Garrett DDS, PA specializes in cosmetic dental treatments and would love to help you improve your smile. In fact, during your first visit with your favorite female dentist in Raleigh, Dr. Garrett will examine your teeth to develop an appropriate treatment plan specific to your needs. Some of the cosmetic dental issues she can address include:
- Stained or discolored teeth
- Cracked or chipped teeth
- Gapped, misaligned, or crooked teeth
- Missing teeth
7 Cosmetic Dental Treatments to Explore
1. Cosmetic Teeth Whitening
If you’re an avid coffee drinker, smoker, or wine drinker, you may suffer from yellow or stained teeth. Cosmetic teeth whitening is one of our most popular dental procedures aimed to improve the color of your teeth. Without undergoing actual surgery, cosmetic teeth whitening is incredibly easy and can provide almost immediate results. Depending on how severely your teeth are stained or discolored, we offer traditional “bleaching tray” methods, as well as ZOOM chairside whitening.

2. Porcelain Veneers
If you have crooked, chipped, broken, or otherwise misshaped teeth; you may feel embarrassed by your appearance and uncomfortable smiling, especially around strangers. As such, porcelain veneers are a solution you may be interested in. This cosmetic dental treatment is permanent. As such, when the procedure is complete, you should care for your veneers in the same way that you care for your regular teeth.
Porcelain dental veneers are a thin ceramic shell that is fitted over your original tooth so that the imperfection is corrected. In some cases, we will need to reduce the original tooth so that the porcelain shell fits correctly and other times no reduction is necessary. We find that this solution can drastically improve your smile by changing the shape, size, and color of your teeth within a couple of weeks versus the time usually required by orthodontic treatment.
3. Dental Bonding
Another cosmetic dental treatment you might consider if you have cracked, stained, or gapped teeth is dental bonding; especially if your condition is minor. The process of dental bonding includes the application of a tooth-colored resin material that then hardens with a special light, causing the material to “bond” to the tooth to restore or improve a person’s smile. This procedure can even be used to close gaps in your smile or change the shape of your teeth.
4. Tooth-Colored Fillings
While most of our patients do their best to keep their teeth clean and healthy, cavities can still happen. In fact, most of our patients have had more than a few. It’s no big deal, but the idea of having a cavity filled can make most people cringe. We do our best to minimize any pain you may feel during a filling, but we also offer tooth-colored fillings to avoid the unattractive nature of silver fillings. Made of a composite resin, tooth-colored fillings are safe, effective, and great for all who choose to have them.
5. Onlays and Inlays
Similar to a filling, another cosmetic dental treatment you may want to consider if you have cavities in your molars or premolars is onlays and inlays. Dental onlays and inlays s are used to restore decayed or damaged teeth to their original condition and can actually strengthen teeth. Rather than remove healthy tooth structure (as is done with a crown), onlays and inlays are fabricated in a dental lab and are then fitted and bonded to the damaged tooth by your dentist.
6. Orthodontics
Finally, if your mouth requires orthodontic treatment, we are happy to refer you to a local Orthodontist. Orthodonic treatments are a great way to correct crooked or misaligned teeth, and don’t necessarily mean “braces.” Like we said, our wish for you this Christmas is that you love your smile in 2021, so if you are interested in this route, we are happy to talk to you more about reaching your goals.
